C and guts: the boys' and girls'
freshmen track teams had it all.
The boys' placed third at the
Fremont Invitational, second at the
Millard Invitational, and third at
Conference.
Eight new school records were
established: Brian Kehrli in the
high jump, long jump, and triple
jump; Steve Bena in pole vault;
Brad King in 400 meters; Craig
Zeller in 800 meters; Jeff Knott,
Zeller, Tom Sestak, and King in the
1600 meter relay; and Knott, Mike
Strehle, Cliff Jones, and Zeller in
the 3200 meter relay.
"This is a very good
accomplishment for one track
season," said coach Dan Mussman.
The girls placed at the Millard
North Invitational, first at the
Fremont Invitational, and were
Conference Dual Meet champions.
Six new school records were
established by the girls: Linda
Barraclough in the long jump;
Dawn Crinklaw in the high jump
and discus; Karen Schelert in the
800 meter run; Therese Fitzpatrick
in the 1600 meter run; and
Schelert, Suzy Radick, Meg Fowler,
and Burkhalter in the 3200 meter
relay.
"This is the kind of team that
makes coaches stay in coaching,"
said coach Ann Fulkerson. "This is
one of the finest seasons ever for a
freshman track team at Ralston."
Both the boys and girls proved
their ability to create a successful
season through hard work, positive
thinking, and desire.
"Many of these student-athletes
have leadership qualities, talent,
and the capacity to work hard,
which should allow them to
contribute on the varsity team in
1982-83," said Fulkerson.
