W hat turned the class clowns into
sophisticated royalty? It was the
Pickle Dance put on by the Student
Council.
The idea came about when senior
Ron LaRosa decided the class clowns
weren’t recognized as being elite and
high society: “I am friends with many
of the class clowns. 1 thought they
should receive a high honor and since
the pickle court is the highest, I wanted
the deserving individuals to receive it.”
The dance was disc-jockeyed by
Steve Beideck. Coronation was held at
10:30 and the 1980 King and Queen
were announced. The winners, chosen
and nominated by their peers, were
seniors Mike Burdette and Laura
Offerdahl. The king and queen
received a jar of pickles and a pickle
sceptre. The other royalty included
Sandy Wiggans, Wes Rogers, Lisa
McCracken, Wes Mitten, Mary Gappa,
and Jon Ek. They were all honored
with a can of anti-perspirant. “It was
the most exciting day of my life. I was
kissed congratulations by the emcee
Ron LaRosa,” exclaimed Laura.
