Shake Your Groove
Thang!
This year’s Criss Cross theme was a little dif
ferent from the traditional mushy love-oriented
themes that go along with this dance held near
Valentine’s Day. The 1997 theme was “The
Great Outdoors Under the Stars.” Here are a
few quotes from people who attended the dance.
How did you ask your date to Criss Cross?
I said, “Listen up little boy; you’re going with
me!” Anonymous 12
“I sent him two long-stemmed chocolate chip
cookies to school. Then on the card I put ‘Food
for thought; While you munch on these think of
going to Criss Cross with me.’ ” Katherine
Phillips 11
“A group of guys were going, and I asked each
one of them if I could tag along. It was fun be
cause you didn’t have to worry about always
knowing where your date was or who you danced
with.” Nicole Kaipust 12
What was your most memorable moment
at Criss Cross?
“When my date and my best friend didn’t do any
thing but fight the whole time.” Valerie Baratta
10
“Criss Cross 1997 was the best dance I ever at
tended at Ralston High. ‘The Great Outdoors’
theme was spectacular, and decorations were
delightful. I remain supremely ecstatic that I
was auspicious enough to be a guest at Criss
Cross 1997.” Natalya Shannon 12
“My date break-dancing, my silver arm band get
ting caught on Angie Muck’s bra, and doing the
ant eater mating dance from ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’
with Angie Centarri.” Suzanne Black 12
“My most memorable moment was when me,
Lori Johnson and Nicole Baehr yanked the
stuffed dog away from the tent!” Kristine
Gutschewski 12
What was your opinion on the theme and
decorations?
“The straw that went up my dress when I sat
down for my picture turned me on.” Anonymous

“The theme was pretty cool, but they needed
some fishing poles and stuff. It’s the great out
doors not Christmas. What was up with the five
foot fake pine tree? Oh, don’t forget about the
jive DJ that tried to see what kind of rhythm
we all had. If I hadn’t taken such a wonderful
date, the dance would have been a total waste.”
