St George beats its own drum
t George Mining Ltd has patiently drilled the Cathedrals belt in
SWestern Australia and is on course to be an important player in
nickel as another boom in the sector is forming.
John Prineas, St George’s executive chairman, noted during his
presentation that nickel price upswings in 1988 and 2006 were com-
parable to the current day situation given the market has been in
deficit since 2015.
St George has been one of the most stoic nickel explorers on the
ASX and despite frequently asked questions about how close it is to
releasing a resource of some sort, Prineas has kept his cards close
to his chest and continued drilling with success at Mt Alexander.
“We’re drilling right up until Christmas with a very big ongoing
programme and have another potential greenfields discovery at
Fishook, which is 100% St George-owned. We don’t want to be un-
dervalued by putting out a resource too early,” Prineas said.
Stricklands, Cathedrals, Investigator and more recently Radar
(6m @ 2.14% nickel, 0.74% copper and 1.62 g/t PGM from 46m)
represent the fresh nickel sulphide discoveries made by St George
at Mt Alexander.
While Mt Alexander, subject to a JV with Western Areas Ltd (25%)
in Western Australia’s Goldfields, is yet to have a resource on it, the
work completed so far has Prineas confident that any potential min-
ing scenario can be triggered swiftly.

“There is nothing nasty like talc or arsenic contained, with high
in cobalt and PGEs,” Prineas said.
“It is a really good clean concentrate we think we can produce
their shoes from our mineralisation and one that will be attractive to blend and
one that we can produce ourselves in a standalone nickel-copper
concentrate with very high credits for the other metals.
“We do think there is an opportunity for a low-cost high margin
project emerging. The drilling is also low cost and it has low-cost
