Dear Graduates,
You are leaving the department where you have spent about four years of life.
It is quite possible that the route that you followed was full of turbulence and
uncertainty. It is also evident that you have learnt a lot of things during this
period and you have reached your aim: you have got your diploma. Some of the
things that you learnt will be recycled and enriched while some others will be
obsolete if you do not refresh and update your ‘hard disk’. In other words, we,
instructors, tried to ‘fuel’ your ‘tank’ with skills, strategies and knowledge that
you may need in your future life. But this will help you to cover some portion
of your professional journey. Thus, you will need to update your ?hard disk?
permanently in order to continue this journey safely.
It is also inevitable that you will have to deal with many questions. But, no
matter what your answer is, there should be one principle to guide you:
students are not ‘sociolinguistic automata’ who are deprived of their emotion
and affection. Therefore, if you want to be successful in your professional
life, motivate your students first. In other words, when motivated students
are assigned challenging but doable tasks, you can think of success. Do not
also forget that you will have a powerful instrument when teaching English:
technology. It will enable you to use multi-media in your classes and using
multimedia may accelerate their learning process since all channels will be
open. It is also true that technology is not your aim, just an instrument to reach
your aim.

Dear students,
I would like to conclude that it was a great chance for us, the instructors of the
department, to learn together. We would like to wish you a happy personal
and professional life. Do not forget that the Department of Foreign Language
Education is your home. Visit home when you have the time and opportunity.
