RECTOR
Distinguished Graduates,
I wholeheartedly congratulate you on your graduation. Seizing this opportunity, I would like to share with
you that I also feel your excitement. It is this excitement that motivates us to act more dynamically, to
better plan for the future, to contribute to the solution of the problems of the world and to reach the
highest level of scientific development.
As you know, the university from which you are about to graduate is not an ordinary institution of higher
education. Boasting its place among the best universities worldwide, your institution is a WORLD
UNIVERSITY. Your university shares the 6th place with METU and Istanbul Technical University
among the 23 Turkish universities appearing in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
Your institution also ranks within the 101-151 band of the Times Higher Educations’s World’s Best
Universities that are aged fifty years or under. These rankings are the most important indicator, at the
same time proof, of our graduates acquiring their profession within a system equivalent to those offered in
the best universities in the context of education, research, scientific infrastructure and social
responsibilities.
Dear graduates, while you are graduating from the Eastern Mediterranean University, a universal,
multicultural and multilingual institution which respects different beliefs, you are also consolidating
‘Virtus, Scientia, Promotionem’ concepts with the principles of tolerance and sharing. You have been
brought up as the bests in your profession and as the most virtuous within the context of the humanistic
values. You have learnt to respect the right to life for all the living. You have also learnt to help those in
need, stay away from conflict, and the beauty of communication and agreement. In this respect, I extend
my congratulations to you once again.
Dear EMU Graduates,
Time has gone by so quickly; Cyprus has become your second homeland and within this community, you
have always had the support of your friends and the members of the Eastern Mediterranean University.
During your stay in our country, you got to know Cyprus and the Turkish Cypriots. Now, undoubtedly, a
part of your heart will beat for Cyprus. You will always follow what’s happening here in Cyprus and look
into the facts in your propective positions. Whilst stating I have no doubt that you will always exalt
Cyprus and EMU, I am proud to send you off to your countries safe and sound, and deliver you to your
families as mature individuals with a profession.
May you all have a bright future. God bless you.
