Customs and society
Andalusia has a lot of social customs, many of
which have their roots in the Islamic traditions
under the Muslim rule. Each sub-region has its
own customs that represent a fusion of
Catholicism and local folklore. Traditional
dresses tend to be colorful and involve various
head coverings, reminiscent of a Muslim past.
Cities like Almería have been historically
influenced by Granada and Murcia.
In Cádiz, traditional costumes are worn at
bullfights and parties. The 'tablao flamenco'
and the 'cante jondo' were originated in
Granada. In Jaen, te saete is a Spanish
religious song, which has evolved over the
centuries. Verdiales, based on the fandango,
are a flamenco music style and song
originating in Málaga. Seville is famous for its
celebrations of Semana Santa, one of the
better known religious events in Spain.
