JINDAL STEEL & POWER LIMITED
The illustrious journey of JSPL’s state-of-art Integrated Steel Plant at Raigarh
began way back in 1988 when the foundation for the Raigarh steel plant was
laid. Within a couple of years, the young entity commissioned the world’s
largest coal-based sponge iron manufacturing plant, with a capacity of
producing 1.32 MTPA DRI. In the early 90’s the plant operated under ‘Orbit
Strips Ltd.’ and was later re-christened to Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. in 1998
under the dynamic leadership of Mr. Naveen Jindal, Chairman, JSPL.
At the dawn of the millennium, the first round caster unit was set up at the
facility. Later, a Coal Washery of 2.5 MT was set up along with a 0.75 MTPA
Modern Rail and Universal Beam Mill (RUBM), equipped to manufacture the
world’s longest single piece rails of 121 metre length. India’s first state-of-art
Plate Mill with a capacity of 1 MTPA was added that manufactures the widest
plates of 3.5 metre in coil form and coils of 3 metre width. A Medium and light
structural mill was also commissioned which rolls out Parallel Flange Beams,
Flats, Beams, Columns and Angles.
During the course of the journey, the company also built several integrated
facilities such as 839 MW Captive Power Plant, 0.7 MTPA Cement Plant, Fly-
Ash Brick Making facility with a production capacity of 3 lakh bricks per day,
along with a Structural Steel Division at Punjipatra for product fabrication.
Today, the Raigarh facility has a total installed capacity of 3.6 MTPA for steel
production. Spread across 2500 acres, the Raigarh plant fosters a large scale
afforestation and greening exercise at its facility. The Raigarh facility practices
world-class environmental management systems and conserves water
through a 100% effluent recycling process. The Raigarh facility also houses a
sprawling OP Jindal Airport spread across a length of 6500 feet; in addition
to this, it also has OP Jindal School and OP Jindal Hospital and Research
Centre in Raigarh and OP Jindal University and OP Jindal Community College
at Punjipatra.
JSPL is further planning to increase Raigarh plant’s production of steel from
3.6 MTPA to 10 MTPA in phases. W
