Located in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, Gillespie County is situated on
the Edwards Plateau in the beautiful state of Texas. Its county seat and largest city
is Fredericksburg. A petition was submitted in December, 1847 to have Gillespie
County created. In 1848, the legislature formed Gillespie County from parts of
Bexar and Travis Counties. Gillespie is named after Robert Addison Gillespie,
who was a soldier in the Mexican–American War. Gillespie County also comprises
the Fredericksburg, TX Micropolitan Statistical Area.
There is plenty to see and do here in the Gillespie County and Fredericksburg
