        Pierce County is located in the beautiful state of Washington and is the second-
     most populous county in the state. The county seat and largest city is Tacoma.
     Formed from a portion of Thurston County in December, 1852, it was named in
     honor of U.S. President Franklin Pierce. The county is home to the well-known
     Mount Rainier, the tallest mountain and volcano within the Cascade Range. Pierce
     County is also included in the Seattle Metropolitan Area.
        Thurston County is located to the southwest of Pierce County and was created
     from part of Lewis County in January, 1852. Its county seat and largest city is
     Olympia, which is also the state capital. The county is named after Samuel R.
     Thurston, the Oregon Territory's first delegate to Congress. Thurston County also
     comprises the Olympia-Tumwater, WA Metropolitan Statistical Area and is included
     in the Seattle-Tacoma, WA Combined Statistical Area as well.
        There is plenty to see and do here in the Pierce and Thurston County Area. Find
