Putnam County is located in the beautiful state of Tennessee. The county seat
and largest city is Cookeville. The county was first established in February, 1842,
when the Twenty-fourth Tennessee General Assembly enacted a measure creating
the county from portions of Jackson, Overton, Fentress, and White counties. Later
is was declared unconstitutionally established and was then officially established
in 1854. Putnam County is named in honor of Israel Putnam, a hero in the French
and Indian War, as well as, a general in the American Revolutionary War. Putnam
County is also part of the Cookeville, TN Micropolitan Statistical Area.
There is plenty to see and do here in the Putnam County and Cookeville Area.
