Brahman. In the seventh century onwards, the bhakti (devotion) movement, which is based on

               the philosophy that moksha or liberation from the cycle of repeated birth and death can be


               achieved through the practice of love and devotion, started in south India and swept across the

               entire Indian subcontinent from 7  to 12  century. Many poets and musicians, all over India,
               inspired by the bhakti philosophy, composed devotional poems and music during this period.

               Bhakti also occupies a central role in most current Hindu religious practices.
