Pratikraman. They ask for forgiveness from all living creatures, no matter how minute, who they

may have harmed, knowingly or unknowingly, either by their deeds, or by words even by their

               thoughts.

Samayik: Another prayer, called Samayik, lasting about 48 minutes, may be recited daily. .

Godless Religion: Jainism does not believe in God per se, but Jainism says that our deeds or

Karmas are like cosmic particles stuck to one's body and soul. To attain Nirvana, the ultimate

mission in life, discard all these Karmas. So far, very few besides twenty four prophets are

               presumed to have attained Nirvana.

Anekantwad: Another major tenet of Jainism is anekantwad which means respecting other

respect as long as they are not in direct conflict with their basic tenets. To attain nirvana, one has

to shed all his karma by leading a righteous life.

Status of Women: Although men and women have an equal status in religion, in practice, it

is a male dominated society. Similar to Hindus, sons had rights to inherit property, and daughters

got dowries. Some years ago, the laws of India changed, giving equal rights to both. Digambars

believe that women cannot attain nivana because of some of their biological functions. Our
