Willing To Let Other Groups Pick at
the Carcass of Veterinary Medicine?
Of COURSE not! But not contributing to NCVMA PAC (NCVMA Political Action Committee) leaves the
profession highly vulnerable to attacks by outside groups.
The threat to veterinary services by non‐veterinary providers is quite real, is already underway in other states,
and is now in NC’s back yard. Per AVMA State Legislative Affairs, the encroachment is part of a national
advocacy initiative for certain groups. This despite the AVMA policy statement that such services are
considered to be the practice of veterinary medicine, to be performed only by a licensed veterinarian.
Imagine: a dentist taking classes in veterinary dentistry. An ophthalmologist taking classes in veterinary
ophthalmology. Physical therapists taking classes in vet rehab. It is already a creeping reality with
chiropractors in several states. The possibilities are far reaching for them to make money at your expense,
despite the risk to the patient and to the public.
Ask yourself – do you think these groups would passively sit back and let veterinarians do the same in their
professions? ABSOLUTELY NOT! Remember ‐ these groups have well‐funded, long‐established PACs to help
relay their message to NC legislators. NCVMA PAC is a relative newcomer, sitting at the bottom of the PAC
totem pole among healthcare groups by tens of thousands of dollars. We are ripe for the picking from outside
predators.
What can you do? STAND UP for your profession! INVEST in your profession by supporting NCVMA PAC!
PAC contributions do not buy votes (illegal, btw) – they enhance our access to legislators. They are given to
legislators from BOTH parties who are key decision makers. Remember: when a legislator is voting on the
future of your profession, the letter D or R beside their name means nothing. NCVMA PAC contributions
support the goals of only one party – The Veterinary Party. Every veterinarian ‐ whether in education, private
practice, government, corporate, or research ‐ is a member. Every veterinarian – regardless of their age, f/t or
p/t, or chosen specialty – has a role to play in protecting the viability of veterinary medicine – a legislated
profession.
Ignore Your Profession and It Will Go Away
