Rémy Martin
Louis XIII and the cellar masters
A more realistic ambition is perhaps to reach
her level. In April, Baptiste Loiseau met this
challenge. The cellar master is responsible for
continuing a standard of excellence that goes
back three centuries, and which characterises
the Rémy Martin style, in order to ensure the
loyalty of each generation of demanding
connoisseurs. He is in charge of the selection
and blending of the best eaux-de-vie – some-
times numbering more than a thousand –
which combine to create the bouquet, the taste
and the distinctive, unsurpassable end-result
that is, in a word, royal.!
Leonardo da Vinci once observed, ‘he is a poor
disciple who does not surpass his master.’ But
which master? At Rémy Martin, there’s only
one: the cellar master. But to surpass Pierrette
Trichet, the first woman to hold the position,
is something her successor can only dream of.
