with its ‘purposeful meetings
and thoughtful and thought-provoking
discussion’. In his spare time he enjoys
walking (with his wife Kate and dog Ivy),
visiting France (and buying French
wines), singing in various choirs and
reading.
Peter Nield’s role on the team is
primarily financial. As St Laurence’s
Director of Finance he makes sure that
the Arts@StLaurence programme
covers its costs so that it does not
divert money from the church’s mission
or maintenance budgets. In some cases
expenses are met by sponsorship from
generous local lovers of the arts. It is a
bonus that Peter has a strong musical
background (Chetham’s School of
Music, chorister at Manchester
cathedral for 20 years – and at St
Laurence’s for 5 years). Twin careers as
an international business consultant and
a secondary school teacher of IT, maths
and business studies prepared him for
taking on the role of PCC Treasurer,
later expanded to include that of
Operations Manager. He gives his
hobbies as family, gardening and
swimming, though ‘swimming’
encompasses a record-breaking English
Channel swim, two World Masters titles
and coaching national athletes.
