Saint Irenaeus
By Shawn Mathew, Grade 7
St. Irenaeus is a soon to be Doctor of
the Church. St. Irenaeus lived from
130 AD to around 200 AD. He was the
Bishop of Lyons, France. St. Irenaeus
was fighting against gnosticism (a
type of heresy). Without him
Christianity would look very
different. He was like a bridge which
connected eastern perspective to
western traditions, which is a great
thing to have. He was a student of
St. Polycarp, who was trained by St.
John the Evangelist. His teachings
have benefited the entire church for
a long period of time.
