Pupils who choose to do ESTEAM in Gr 8 and 9 are exposed to
Mechatronics and Civil Engineering that include classic
computing, coding in JavaScript, Python and HTML, working
with EV3 robots and Mavic drones as well as more advanced
3D design and printing. Grade 9 ESTEAM pupils also had the
opportunity to collaborate with Drama and Art pupils on a CGI
film project and a 3D virtual op art project.
Herzlia is incredibly proud of all the pupils who entered the
annual Computer Olympiad. The top achievers were: Michaela
Perkel in Gr 11 with a score of 100% (only 2 participants out of
2428 in the category in SA achieved a perfect score.) Sienna
Dibowitz in Gr 9 and Benjamin Levinson in Gr 8, both with a
score of 100% (only 5 participants out of 4638 in the category
in SA achieved a perfect score.) Joshua van Tonder, Joshua Atie
and Aaron Epstein in Gr 9 each with a score of 93% (only 14
participants out of 4638 in the category in SA achieved this
score.)
Herzlia’s teachers are constantly engaging in staff development
opportunities to continue to innovate. Over 60 teachers have
already obtained their Google Educator certification upon
completing the online training that was provided by Herzlia’s
Innovation Department. Teaching staff have also been granted
access to the PurpleZA platform that provides a wide range of
pedagogy-related online certification courses. This platform
allows teachers to track their progress on their dashboard as
they are completing courses relevant to their area of expertise.
Finally, thank you to Herzlia’s Innovation and IT teams for
supporting all the pupils and staff with the use of technology
and to ensure that Herzlia remains connected whether we
teach in-person or online. We have more exciting
opportunities that await in 2022 and we can’t wait to share
these with our pupils.
