WATERPROOFING – Type of work done by J.H. ProofRock; also the process where a building component is made totally
resistant to the passage of water and/or water vapor. Caulking is beautiful when done by artisans.
WATER REPELLANT COATING – Transparent coating or sealer applied to the surface of concrete and masonry surfaces to
repel water, resist atmospheric staining, and resist adhesion of graffiti paint.
WATER TESTING – Field Water Testing – method of applying calculated, measured water spray at exterior walls, floors,
and roofs, to determine waterproof integrity and/or to determine source of water entry into building interior spaces. Usually
performed in accordance with industry standard test method AAMA 501.2
WATER VAPOR - Moisture existing as a gas in air.
WATTAGE - The electrical unit of power. KILOWATTS is 1000 watts and electric customers are billed on how many kilo-
watts of power they have used.
WEEP HOLE - A hole which allows for drainage of entrapped water from masonry or glazing structures. Also called “weep
slots”.
WEEP SCREED – Tool used to drain moisture from concrete.
WELD - The joining of components together by fusing. In thermoplastics, refers to bonding together of the membrane using
326 heat or solvents.
WET SEAL – Application of an elastomeric sealant between the glass and sash to form a weather tight seal. Silicone building
sealant must be used for full contact with glass (See Dow Corning “795” or Momentive “Silpruf”)
WIND UPLIFT - The upward force exerted by wind traveling across a roof.
