Eligibility for Limited Warranty
Eligibility for Limited Warranty
IMPORTANT: When replacing a longblock, the following requirements must be met in order to ensure eligibility for the Mercury/
Quicksilver Remanufacturing Limited Warranty.
If the engine is equipped with an oil cooler, the oil cooler must be replaced in order to prevent the probability of a
premature internal engine failure.
NOTE: If the cooler is not replaced, the longblock will not be eligible for warranty consideration. If an internal engine failure
should occur that is eligible for warranty consideration, a copy of the invoice indicating the purchase of an original type
OEM oil cooler is required.
All oil lines and oil filter adapters must be flushed with a clean solvent to eliminate the probability of bearing damage to the
engine.
Clean the intake manifold induction runners to ensure that they are free of debris.
Replace or clean fuel system components (carburetor or injectors) to ensure proper operation. Verify fuel system pressures
to ensure proper flow.
Clean cooling system component passages to ensure that they are free of pieces of seawater pump impellers and other
types of debris. Verify the condition of the thermostat housing, and install a new thermostat.
Inspect exhaust system components.
• Disassemble manifolds, risers, and elbows to ensure that gasket surfaces are flat and sealable.
• Leak‑test manifolds for internal leaks.
• Use new gaskets in reassembly.
• Verify the integrity of exhaust shutters for sterndrive applications.
In the dress assembly process of a longblock, use new gaskets and o‑rings as required.
Refer to the appropriate Mercury MerCruiser Service Manual for proper assembly instructions and torque specifications.
When replacing a transmission, the transmission oil cooler must also be replaced in order to prevent the probability of a
premature transmission failure.
NOTE: A copy of the invoice for an oil cooler or transmission/cooler assembly is required for warranty authorization for the
transmission. If the cooler has not been replaced, the transmission will not be eligible for warranty consideration.
Prime the engine's oiling system before installing the distributor. Refer to Section 8B ‑ Oil System Priming for
Remanufactured Engines and Longblocks.
Before installing the engine in the boat:
• Connect the engine to a water supply, battery power, fuel, and 3‑ft exhaust hoses (connected to the exhaust elbows).
• Start the engine; verify oil pressure and ignition timing; examine for fuel, oil, and water leaks; and inspect for loose
components.
• Verify the engine is ready to be installed in the boat.
After the engine is fully installed in the boat, complete the Predelivery Inspection worksheet and place a copy in the
customer file and another with the invoice.
NOTE: The Predelivery Inspection worksheet is required for warranty authorization.
