Joan Smith Hello. Allow me to state the obvious: this is not a normal time. The
Athenaeum Staff Irene Trenholme elephants are the room: the virus is still among us; it’s been hot as blue blazes
 Debra Wallens-Matte
Bob Joly, Athenaeum Director Jim and Betsy Zorn in Vermont; the stock market is like a theme park ride. As a country we are
Adele West-Fisher, Coordinator of trying, again, to understand who is privileged, who is oppressed, and what
Library Services we can do to make things lastingly better. Almost forgot about the election
Becky Hatfield, Youth Services Teen Advisory Board in November. Perhaps, like us, you are just now getting your sea legs.
 Librarian Lincoln Bliss
Adriene Katz, Librarian MacKay Breton That said, this report is about 2019 which was, in fact, a great year for the

Scott Davis, Development Officer Aaron Sol Cruz
Melanie Fox-McGregor, Bookkeeper Charlotte Flanders We worked on plans for our approaching sesquicentennial, and managed
Harold DeGreenia, Custodian Jacquelyn LeBlanc our funds adroitly. We presented dozens of stimulating, thought-provoking

programs on art, race relations, local history, photography, and more. There
Library Volunteers were countless readings, stories, and crafts for children. We circulated
Lisa Adler thousands of items, including hundreds of new books and other materials.
Timothy Bryner There was a great summer celebration of Peter and Elka Schumann of Bread
Bonnie Dasher-Andersen and Puppet fame. We welcomed KampIwannahavfuners. There were
 Nate Despathy
Elizabeth Evans visitors in the gallery from spring to snow.
Ely Haskins This year, despite the uncertainties, we will do the same. Today the sun
 Linda Hunkins
Dotti Jackson-Turek shone and a cool breeze blew as we had our first outside, in-person story
Carol Toles hour for children. We have many such events scheduled as we open up a
little each week, slowly and safely. The First Wednesday lectures are

Docents scheduled. Exhibits are planned. We are ready to do what we do best: serve
you so you can enjoy the books, and art, and the beauty, serenity and

Alice Burnham familiarity the Athenaeum provides. We are in this together.
 Caroline DeMaio
Jeff Gold We offer you grateful, heartfelt thanks. This institution is your legacy as
Martha Hill much as our Founder’s.
