UNDERSEA SONGS
YELLOW SUBMARINE & OCTOPUS’S GARDEN
by THE BEATLES
And after talking about
the sea, the weaves, the
sailors, the colorful coral
reef, the war, the Great
Britain and above all the
submarines I can’t not talk
about a song by Beatles
that reminds of all of this:
Yellow Submarine.
This song was written by
Paul McCartney and John
Lennon for Ringo Starr’s voice in 1966. Although intended as a nonsense song for
children it has received various social and political interpretations and has been used by
some peace movements as a symbol of
social harmony and non violence.
The yellow submarine is the place where
the band live together peacefully and many
friends are aboard or live in other yellow
submarines. There is a party atmosphere
and everyone has all he need.
The song inspired an animated film with the
same name. The movie is set in
"Pepperland", an undersea country filled
with happiness, music and kindness. The
"Blue Meanies", who hate anything that is
positive, invade Pepperland, strip it of color
and music and make the country grey,
silent and sad. The Beatles help to bring
music back to the country and to defeat the
Blue Meanies. They invite them to live
together and the Meanies change their way of life to make Pepperland a happy and
peaceful place again.
