The Growth Story
Timken came to India in the late 1980s, before the Indian economy had
opened up to the world and the law still required outside companies to
have an Indian joint venture partner. That is how Tata Timken came into
being. We brought cutting-edge technology to India, and our esteemed
OE customers began to adopt modern technology. Our presence in India
helped them deliver better results for their end customers. We started
with less than 100 associates and, today we have around 2,000 direct
associates adding value to our business in India.
When we spoke of Lean and JIT (Just in Time) back in 1990, people
didn’t understand those terms. Over time, however, India embraced these
processes and has excelled at enterprise Lean and frugal manufacturing.
From our first steps in India to now having three large state-of-the-art
manufacturing facilities here,Timken represents a great success story.
