■ Electrocardiogram
■ Chest x-ray
■ CT or MRI
Management
■ Provide airway support. Monitor ABGs.
■ Monitor cardiac and respiratory status.
■ Monitor vital signs. Assess for arrhythmias.
■ Assess for changes in mental status.
■ Provide passive rewarming of patient with blankets and warm room.
External warming is contraindicated.
■ Correct fluid and electrolyte imbalances.
■ Administer levothyroxine (Synthroid, Levoxyl) IV.
■ Consider steroids (Hydrocortisone IV) after a cortisol level is obtained.
■ Provide seizure and safety precautions.
