Charging a body negatively by the method of induction:

There are the following steps to charge a body negatively.

➢ The body PQ which is to be charged negatively is placed on an insulating

stand and positively charged body A (i.e., glass rod rubbed with silk) is

brought near its end P as shown in figure (a) so that the opposite charged (-

ve) is induced at the nearer end P and similar charged (+ve) is induced at

               the remote (far) end Q.

➢ The end of the body is earthed i.e., it is connected with the earth so that the

free charges (+ve charges) flows to the earth.

➢ The earthing wire is now disconnected keeping the body A still in its

position as shown in figure (a).

➢ Finally, the body A is also removed from its position so that the -ve charges

spread all over in body B. In this way the body can be charged negatively.

Charging a body positively by the method of induction:

❖ The body PQ which is to be charged +vely is placed on an insulating stand

and -vely charged body A (i.e., ebonite rod rubbed with fur or funnel) is
