Page 46 - Force 10
P. 46
Gravity: The resultant force with which the planet or satellite attracts
different objects towards their center is called gravity.
Jupiter = 25 N Moon = 1.67 N
Pole of earth = 9.83 N Equator of earth = 9.78 N
Gravity is merely a case of gravitation, justify this statement.
During falling an object towards the centre of heavenly
body due to gravity, the falling object is seen distinctly getting
attracted towards the centre of heavenly body due to greater
mass of the heavenly body towards its centre. The magnitude
of force of attraction of falling object is very lesser in
comparison to force of attraction due to the heavenly body.
Hence, Gravity is merely a case of gravitation.
Gravitational field: The region of space around a mass where another mass
experiences the gravitational force is called gravitational field.
