Relation between “g” and “G”
Let a body of mass m be on the Earth surface. Then the force of gravity on the body is
given by{the force of attraction between the earth and the body}

The weight of the body is given by
W = mg ………………….(ii)
Weight of a body is the force of gravity acting on it. So from (i) and (ii), we get
{The force of gravity acting on a body is called weight of the body.}
mg = G

Or, g = ………….(iii)

This gives the relation between g and G. Using this relation the acceleration
due to gravity can be calculated.
