Q.12. A gold merchant buys a little gold from Tandi bazaar by using
spring balance and sales it in Namche bazaar with the same cost
price. But he found his business in loss. Explain with reason.(extra
expenses in business is excluded)
Tandi bazaar is in low height from the sea level than Namche
bazaar. It means that radius of earth is longer in Namche bazaar and
shorter at Tandi bazaar.
Weight is inversely proportional to the square of radius of heavenly
1
body (i.e.. W∝ ) . When radius increases, weight decreases and vice
2
versa. As spring balance is used to measure weight, gold merchant
uses it to buy gold at Tandi. When merchant goes to Namche bazaar,
weight of gold is found to be decreased due to relation of weight and
radius of earth. He sells gold but found his business in loss even after
selling the gold at cost price. Hence, due to the variation in the radius
of earth at two different places, merchant bears loss in his business.
