Q.26. How much is the weight of a body less on the surface of the moon
than on the earth’s surface? OR what happens to the weight of an
object when it is taken from the earth to moon. Why?
The weight of a body is directly proportional to the acceleration due
to gravity of planet or satellite (W∝ ). As the acceleration due to gravity
on the surface of the moon is (1/6)th less than that of on the surface of
the earth. Therefore, the weight of a body is six times less on the surface
of the moon than on the earth’s surface.
Q.27. When a man travels from Hilly region to terai region. What will
happen to his weight?
The weight of object is inversely proportional to the square of distance
1
between from the centre of the earth (i.e.. W∝ ). Since the distance
2
from the centre of the earth is lesser than that of hilly region. Therefore,
the weight of a man increases when he travels from hilly region to terai
region.
