The National Minority Supplier Development Council was created in 1972. CRPC
later changed its name to the Chicago Minority Supplier Development Council, or
ChicagoMSDC. There are now 22 other councils within the NMSDC network across
the United States.
Today, ChicagoMSDC is headed by Debra Jennings-Johnson, President and CEO,
and its board of directors include active leadership from more than 25 corporate
and minority-owned business representatives. The Council certifies, develops,
connects and advocates on behalf of more than 950 minority-owned businesses,
reporting over $17 billion in revenue in 2020, employing more than 66,000 workers
within the Chicago Area, 54% of whom are also minorities. ChicagoMSDC continues
to be one of the largest councils in the NMSDC network.
ChicagoMSDC executes a spectrum of programs including procurement initiatives,
networking events, public policy engagements and annual fundraising events that
support educational scholarship awards for minority business students at local
colleges and universities.
As the country emerges from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, ChicagoMSDC
continues to develop new ways of engagement and collaboration, and the need for
education, programs and services that place supplier diversity front and center
remain paramount in creating meaningful economic opportunities for MBEs well
into the future.
The minority supplier development movement that started 55 years ago in Chicago,
then evolved into a national organization with a global reach, has changed the
world.
ChicagoMSDC continues to actively work on Creating A Future for us all.
