2.2 Human Blood Circulatory System
1. The blood circulatory system is an important system in our body.
2. This system transports blood from the heart to the whole body and back to the heart.
3. The blood circulatory system consists of several main parts:
Blood vessel – Transports
blood to the whole body
Heart – Pumps
blood to the lungs
and the whole
body
Lungs – Place
where exchange
of carbon dioxide
and oxygen gases
takes place
Blood – Transports oxygen, nutrients,
water and waste products
4. The diagram below shows the blood circulation process in the human body. Blood will return to the
heart twice in every cycle. For the first time, blood is delivered to the lungs and for the second time,
blood is delivered to the whole body.

lungs and known as blood rich in oxygen.
Blood is absorbed

vessels.
After the body has used up
the oxygen, carbon dioxide is
2. produced and absorbed into the
blood. The blood is known as
blood rich in carbon dioxide.

carbon dioxide The heart will pump the blood rich
in carbon dioxide to the lungs. The
lungs remove carbon dioxide while we
exhale.
