Science Year 5 Practice 2 Humans
2.3 Relationship between the Systems in the Human Body
1. Human body can function normally because there are systems that are exist in the body.
2. Even though the functions of every system are different, but they are dependent on each other.
3. For example, the lungs are the organs of respiratory system and are dependent on the blood vessels
to supply oxygen to the whole body parts.
4. Blood circulatory system transports oxygen (from respiratory system) and nutrients (from digestive
system) to the whole body and removes carbon dioxide and waste products from the body (excretory
system).

5. Skeletal system is important to protect respiratory and blood circulatory organs such as the lungs
and the heart. For example, the ribs protect the lungs and the heart from injuries when involved in
road accidents.
6. The blood circulatory system transports oxygen and nutrients to the skeletal system to help in the
bone growth.
7. We need to practice good habits to ensure our bodies are healthy and free from diseases.
8. For example, prolonged smoking habits will damage the respiratory passage and the lungs. Smoking
also can cause diseases such as lungs inf ammation and lungs cancer.
9. When the lungs are affected, the other systems in the body such as the blood circulatory system
will also be affected and cannot function well.
2.4 Preserving Systems in the Human Body
Skeletal System
1. We need to consume food rich in calcium to build strong bones. Examples of food containing calcium
are milk and dairy products.
2. We need to be active and do physical activities to strengthen the bones.
3. We need to ensure safety f rst by wearing seatbelts, knee and elbow guards, and wrist support
when cycling and riding motorcycle.
Respiratory System
1. Avoid smoking because smoking can cause many diseases such as asthma, bronchitis, and lungs
cancer.
2. Live in a clean environment to reduce the risks of diseases related to the respiratory system.
3. Wash hands with soap or hand sanitizers frequently. Avoid touching nose and mouth before washing
the hands to prevent bacteria or virus from entering the respiratory system.
Blood Circulatory System
1. Reduce intake of food that contains high fat and sugar contents.
2. Exercise in the correct ways to strengthen the heart.
Digestive System
1. Eat food that high in f bre such as vegetables, fruits and whole grains.
2. Drink water adequately to ease the digestive system.
