K Adverbs 副词
✒ An adverb can be a word or a phrase that describes or modif es a verb, an adjective
or another adverb.
副词可以是形容或修饰动词、形容词或其他副词的词语或短语。
e.g. Wee Wen speaks loudly.
John saw his classmate just now.

We can form most adverbs by adding ‘-ly’ to an adjective. Here are some basic rules
about forming adverbs:
大多数的副词是由形容词加上“-ly”所构成。以下是构成副词的基本规则:

most adjectives add ‘-ly’ slow slowly

‘-able’ or ‘-ible’ change ‘-e’ to ‘-y’ honourable honourably
“-able”或“-ible” 把“-e”转换成“-y” terrible terribly
change ‘-y’ to ‘-ily’ easy easily
‘-y’
把“-y”转换成“-ily” angry angrily
change ‘-ic’ to ‘-ically’ economic economically
‘-ic’
把“-ic”转换成“-ically” scientif c scientifically
However, not all words that end in ‘-ly’ are adverbs. They can be adjectives instead.
Examples of such words are:
然而,不是所有以“-ly”结尾的词语都是副词,它们可以是形容词。例如:
friendly lovely lonely silly ugly
There are also some adverbs which have no particular form. Examples of such adverbs
are:
