                       There was/There were

             •  Used to show that something existed in the past.
                           There was/wasn’t                            There were/weren’t

                        Was/Were

             •  The past tense of verb ‘be’.
                              Was/Wasn’t                                  Were/Weren’t
              •  Used with ‘I’, ‘he’, ‘she’ and ‘it’.      •  Used with ‘you’, ‘we’ and ‘they’.
                e.g. I was a school athlete.                 e.g.   You were late.
                      She wasn’t a runner.                          We weren’t happy with the result.
