It is of no surprise to me that women in
male dominated societies (including our
own) find liberty and refuge by covering
themselves completely in garments such
as the burqa. My painting Narcissus is
precisely about the right that men feel they
possess in seeing women means owning
women and the heartbreaking results of
these attitudes affecting us all. Men have
to liberate themselves from this enslaving
attitude so that they and the women of the
world can attain their true standing.
