A letter from our dean, Dr. Marcia Tate Arunga

Dear Evergreen State College, Tacoma ? Sankofa Learning community;

We have arrived at week six. If you are still here, you are a winner! As in the book, Parable
of the Sower by Octavia Butler, you have reached a moment of reckoning. The time has
come to ask: do you wish to continue moving or can you settle yourself, your heart, your
soul to be here? How will we protect each other, nurture each other and build a thriving
community? This is the question that we ask you today. Prepare yourself by collecting the
seeds for planting a new life:

Create no images of God

Accept the images that God has provided.
They are everywhere.
In everything

God is Change-
Seed to tree.

Tree to forest;
Rain to river

River to sea;
Grubs to bees,

Bees to swarm.
From one, many;
From many, one;

Forever uniting, growing, dissolving,
Forever Changing

The universe is God?s self portrait.

How comforting to know that we are surrounded by the divine art of creation. Everything
we need we already have! Time to access resources and create community here.
