The GMA Inspiration List: Who's

making Black history in 2021?

India.Arie nominates Dr. Maxine Mimms

Dr. Maxine Mimms founded Evergreen State College -
Tacoma campus over 45 years ago. And at 92 years

old, she is living history, having been an educator for

over half a century and an activist for even longer.
She was/is peer, sister, friend to the likes of Maya

Angelou, Odetta, Abby Lincoln, Jessye Norman, Cicely

Tyson, Nina Simone, Oprah Winfrey...And even now, in

the 21st year of the 21st century, she continues to
inspire people of all ages. She?s been a GREAT

inspiration to me, more than I have space to express

here. For all the way she touches and is BELOVED by

so many of all ages, a true living oracle, I would LOVE
to nominate Dr. Maxine Mimms.
