COMEBACK STORY
IT’S BACK… FOR THE 41ST TIME.
The 117th Western Amateur Championship has come back to the Point O’ Woods Golf &
Country Club after a 10-year hiatus. It all began back in 1963 with Tom Weiskopf bringing
home the coveted championship in its inaugural year at The Point. Over the course of the
next 45 years, Point O’ Woods hosted the Western Amateur 40 times and provided some
of amateur golf’s greatest battles. The best of the best have graced the fairways of The Point,
including such Western Amateur winners as Curtis Strange, Ben Crenshaw, Phil Mickelson
and Tiger Woods. As part of Western Amateur lore, Hal Sutton and Justin Leonard were
the only ones to have won in back-to-back years.
So welcome back. We’re honored to again host the Western Amateur Championship at
Point O’ Woods Golf & Country Club, and we promise to regale and excite you
with tremendous golf.
