MATHEMATICS
Pupils develop their mathematical skills, knowledge and understanding through learning
about and using number, measures and money, shape, position and movement, and
handling data. They use a variety of ICT resources as tools whenever appropriate.
LITERACY, NUMERACY and DIGITAL COMPETENCY FRAMEWORKS
Teachers plan appropriate opportunities to develop and refine literacy, numeracy anf
ICT skills from the Welsh Government Framework. These opportunities are closely
matched with individual progress and based upon the expected outcomes for different
year groups.
SCIENCE
Pupils are given opportunities to carry out different types of enquiry, e.g. pattern
seeking, exploring, classifying and identifying, making things, fair testing, using and
applying models.
Pupils use and develop their skills; knowledge and understanding by:
investigating how animals and plants are independent yet rely on each other for
survival;
comparing the Earth with other planets;
investigating materials around them and considering the importance of recycling;
investigating the science behind everyday things, e.g. toys, musical instruments
and electrical devices, the way they are constructed and work.
WELSH
Welsh is taught as a second language. Children progressively develop their skills in
oracy, reading and writing. Foundation Phase children are introduced to the language
through simple phrases and sentences, songs, games, poems, Welsh stories and folk
tales. Key Stage 2 Welsh builds upon and expands the language previously experienced
by introducing more complex language patterns.
Throughout the school Welsh is used wherever possible to deliver simple classroom
instructions, exchange greetings and make requests.
