Eventually, this effect will make the foundation become
uneven and left the bigger gap between the tank floor
and foundation. The condition of gap formation of tank
floor with the foundation is illustrated in Figure 2.5. For-
tunately, neutron back-scatter technique can be used
to estimate the gap between foundation and tank floor
without remove the storage tank.

    Giving more load and unload on the storage tank
will create larger gap and also reduce the fatigue strength
of welded part of the storage tank floor. This is un-
safe condition and should be avoided. The condition of
tank floor gap can be determine using non-destructive
