Diffraction Technique
and Application
Wave character of neutron is widely utilised in diffrac-
tion technique. Neutrons utilised for diffraction tech-
nique is within cold to thermal energy ranges. These
neutrons are obtained from nuclear research reactor
or spallation neutron sources. Producing thermal and
cold neutron from fast neutron required moderation pro-
cess. Fast neutron is moderated by hdyrodegenous
materials or passed through high speed chopper. These
moderations will produced thermal or cold neutron de-
pending of moderator material or chopper speed. Thus,
diffraction of thermal or cold neutron is similar, therfore,
the principle, instrument and applications of neutron
diffraction are discussed in the this chapter.
