‘Ness’ is a suffix added after a word to make the word mean
different.
If ‘ness’ is added to a certain adjective, the word becomes a noun.
4.2. Add ‘ness’ after the following words to make them noun.

j. soft k. pale l. dizzy
4.3. Choose the correct word and complete the following
sentences.
a. The boy can’t see at night. He has the problem of night

c. The man is careless. Because of his (careless/
carelessness) he had the accident.
d. The (blunt/bluntness) of the sharpener made us
difficult to sharpen our pencils.
e. We are very (close/closeness) to each other. Our (close/
closeness) has reached our family.
f. I felt (sad/sadness) to know your problem but I know
