Shina : Well, the rhinoceros commonly known as the rhino
is the second biggest land animal on earth. An adult

rhino weighs from 2 to 2.7 tons. Generally the male

is bigger than the female. It is a herbivore mammal

and is mostly found in grassy land with water near it.

Shelly : Is there only one species of rhino?
Shina : No, there are two.

                        Rhinos have a horn or

                        two on their nose. The
                        one with one horn is

                        the one horned rhino

                        and the one with

                        two horns is the two

                        horned rhino.
Shelly : Which places are they native to ?

Shina : Good question! The two horned rhino is native to

Africa. One of its horns can grow up to one metre.
The one horned rhino is native to Nepal and India.

There are only a few of them. You know it is a rare

animal. It is protected in Nepal in Chitwan National

                        Park and Bardiya National Park.

Shelly : Tell me about its physical features.
Shina : Rhinos have a big body with the thick fold of skin.

Limbs are not very big or long. Rhinos are about

12 feet long and 6 feet tall. They have a very coarse
                        tongue.
