Prepositions are the words that are usually placed before a noun or
pronoun in a sentence and show the relationship between a noun or
pronoun and other words in the sentence.

We shall call you on Monday.

A mongoose jumped onto the wall and sat there.

In the first sentence, the word ‘on’ shows the relationship between the
pronoun ‘you’ and ‘Monday’ and suggests time.

In the second sentence, the word ‘in’ shows relationship between ‘song’

and ‘the auditorium tomorrow’ and suggests a place or position.

In the last sentence, the word ‘onto’ shows relationship between
‘jumped’ and ‘the wall’ and suggests direction or motion.
