We use I wish / if only with a v2 (simple past) to make a wish for the present.
We use I wish / if only with would+ v1 (conditional) to make a wish for the
future.
We use I wish / if only with had + v3 (past perfect) to regret a past event
which can no more be fulfilled.
6.2. Make wishes or regret in the given situation and read out to your
class.
a. You wish your father to come to your school now.
b. You wish your sister to get married soon.
c. Your father didn’t save enough money so he can’t pay now the
car’s EMI.
d. Sheila left the job in aggression and now she is regretting.
e. You wish to have a thousand rupees.
f. You wish your family to move to London as soon as possible.
g. Your brother went on a trekking, got sick and now he is
regretting.
h. You wish your friend to buy you a can juice now.
i. You wish your country to be developed faster.
