The words that and which seem to be interchangeable but
they are not.
That can be used only in restrictive clauses and which can be
used only in nonrestrictive clauses.
A restrictive clause is essential for understanding the meaning
of the sentence. It is not set off from the main clause by
commas.
A nonrestrictive clause is not much essential to understand
the meaning of the sentences. It only gives an additional
information. It is set off from the main clause by commas.
