h. no room to swing a cat : a small or confined place.

Use : We are living in a small

quarter. We have no room

to swing a cat.

i. pipe down : to be quiet or to shut up

Use : Pipe down everybody. The

baby is sleeping.

j. pull the plug : bring something to an end

Use : We have already been late.

Let’s pull the plug now. We

shall discuss it tomorrow.
