P. 12
On November 29, 1998 he set off from Dolakha town at the
age of twenty five for a world bicycle trek. His goal was to
spread the message of peace and hope and to make Nepal,
his motherland known to the world. When he set off, he
had a bicycle, 60 kg of essentials and a hundred rupee note
given by his mother.
It is hard to believe what he really did in eleven years after
he left Dolakha. He travelled more than one hundred fifty
countries. During his travel he had to face many challenges.
Sometimes he had to go without food and decent shelter
and sometimes, security threat. He recalls in his diary that
he had to sleep in parks, streets and godowns; he had to
feast on orange peels. Once his bicycle was stolen in New
Zealand, and once he was kidnapped in Mexico where he
was all set to be murdered. But he never gave up. He went
on and on and was successful in his mission.
After travelling more than one hundred fifty countries he
came back to Nepal in 2009. On May 17, 2010 he successfully
climbed the Everest, the highest mountain peak in the
world.
Today, this man stands as an icon for courage and
determination and we get to learn a lot from his life.
