Complication

1. Empyema

• The fluid that accumulates may become infected

2. Pneumothorax

• Procedures such as thoracentesis may result in the entry of air into the chest

cavity

3. Atelectasis

• Inhibition of lung expansion causes gas exchange in the lungs to become

inefficient, which in turn leads to the death of lung tissue cells.
