1. EXTRINSIC FACTORS
• Environmental pollutants such as cigarette smoke, and gases (e.g. sulfur dioxide,
nitrogen dioxide) can stimulate asthma.
• Children who are exposed to cigarette smoke are at high risk for exacerbating the
severity of asthma
• Children exposed to pollen, house dust or pet dander. This condition usually persists into
adulthood
• Agents found in construction sites or other work areas such as fumes and gases can
(noxious fumes), chemicals and dust can cause Occupational Asthma.
